Add cartoon donkey butts to the top of your "too lewd for
Bumbershoot" list. That was the reason cited by the events committee for shutting
down Outpatient Radio's "Pin the Face on the Jackass" promotion, in spite
of the fact that the very same committee approved the promotion a week in
advance. The promotion was designed by Outpatient Radio's Johnny Seattle,
Scotty Crane, and Daryl Affleck in order to raise money for the Humane Society
of King County. "The real loser here is the animals," commented Seattle.
"We had hoped to raise several thousand dollars on their behalf. Instead,
we raised a couple hundred."
The committee donated exactly thirty-one of those dollars themselves because
they "felt bad."
The promotion was to be a twist on the traditional "Pin the Tail on the Donkey,"
which had contestants
attempting to pin the faces of Crane and Seattle on a donkey butt. "The whole
idea is preposterous," said Crane.
"Are you telling me a cartoon donkey butt is more obscene than your average
rap lyric?"
Seattle and Crane say they plan on staging another Humane Society Benefit
in the near future.
"I'm sure we can find a venue with more heart than Bumbershoot," said Seattle.
